Home health care is skilled, doctor-ordered care, such as nursing and therapy, delivered in your own home. It is different from non-medical "home care" (companionship or housekeeping only).
Medicare Part A and/or Part B cover home health care for people who meet Medicare’s rules: you are under a doctor’s care with a plan of care, a doctor certifies you need intermittent skilled nursing or therapy, and you are homebound. Medicus is a Medicare-certified agency. Call us and we’ll walk you through your situation.
Generally, leaving home takes a considerable and taxing effort, for example you need help, a device like a walker, or your doctor advises against leaving. Short trips for medical care, religious services or adult day care are usually still allowed. Your doctor makes the determination.
Home health care is ordered by a physician. If you don’t have a referral yet, call us. We can coordinate with your doctor or hospital discharge planner. You can also ask your physician or discharge nurse whether home health care is an option for your recovery.
